Treatment may start with over-the-counter pain relievers and home care such as drinking plenty of water, eating certain foods such as fiber, or avoiding certain foods, and using antacids. Depending on the severity of the abdominal pain, we may recommend interventional pain therapies such as biofeedback, prescription medications, nerve blocks, and nutritional counseling.
  • Arm and Leg Pain – Arm and leg pain is caused by inflammation of tissues and can be caused by a number of conditions or injuries. Swelling may be a symptom of disease or injury. Depending on the severity of the arm or leg pain, we may recommend interventional pain therapies such as prescription medications, topical agents, injections, stimulation, and physical therapy.
    • Important Note: Be aware that the cause of arm pain can be life threatening if it is associated with the pain of a heart attack. Heart attack pain can radiate into the arm or jaw. Seek medical help immediately if you suspect you may be having a heart attack.

  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome – Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic condition that typically affects the arms or legs and can cause severe pain and inflammation as well as changes in skin color and temperature. A combination of therapies may help improve symptoms or slow the progression of CRPS including medication management, injections, and stimulation.

Prolonged exposure to blood sugar damages nerve fibers throughout the body. Treatment through medication management are meant to manage complications associated with the condition, restore function, and minimize pain.

  • Head Pain – Many people suffer from chronic or acute tension headaches, migraines, or other head pain. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause and severity of a patient’s pain. Adequate hydration, sleep, and dietary modifications can help reduce the occurrence and severity of headaches. In severe cases, when medication management is required to manage pain, Teton Valley Health takes a conservative approach to limit prescription medication and avoid issues with dependence.

Depending on the cause of pain treatment options can include medication management, topical agents, injections, and physical therapy.
  • Neck Pain – Neck problems can cause sensations that range from tingling or a dull ache to sudden or sharp pain that prohibits your normal activity. Treatments such as ice, rest, muscle relaxants and over-the counter pain medications may provide some relief. Prescription anti-inflammatory pain medications may also be prescribed if necessary. Sometimes additional therapy is required and can include physical therapy, medication management, injections, nerve blocks, stimulation, and minimally invasive procedures.
  • Neuropathic Pain – Neuropathic pain is a chronic pain condition that develops when nerve fibers have become damaged or dysfunctional as a result of tissue damage. Mild neuropathic pain may only require conservative treatments such as rest, ice and nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs for adequate pain relief. Moderate to severe cases of neuropathic pain may benefit from stimulation depending on the nerves that have been affected. Injections or nerve blocks may also be administered for neuropathic pain that affects specific tissues and muscle groups.
